“Hey guys, Korentul here” I would like to start off by saying that I’m proud of this guild. I have been here since its conception and we have come a long way. To me, being in this guild has always been about having fun. There would be times where I would log on and run circles in shatt for two hours while talking to other guildies in guild chat. I’m sure most of you have seen me naked, killing chickens in the refugee area.

With that said we have started to venture between the realm of a “casual” guild and a “hardcore” guild. I’ve tried my best as a raid leader and an officer in the guild to keep everything fair and everyone happy. A balancing act where I try to cater to the player that’s on all the time, knows his class, and is a great gamer but also not penalize the guy who is just there to enjoy the game, or can’t be on all the time because of work, kids, etc. As our guild has become bigger, we have a lot more personalities that blur the line between hardcore gamer and casual player.

Before the release of wrath, I have been watching the players and asking questions. Listening to what people want from the guild and would like to see more of. I came to the conclusion that a majority of the people in guild want it all. They want to be hardcore and casual at the same time. This can’t work. People are forgetting that this is a casual guild that raids. It can’t/won’t be a raiding guild that’s casual…..because people are expecting more out of the guild than they are getting or feel they deserve because they are such a great player. They are venting their frustrations in guild chat and taking out their rage on guild members, and in essence killing guild morale.

Sadly, I will now have to implement the following rules in the guild to keep things from getting out of hand. These rules will be enforced by the officers of the guild. Repeat offenders will be removed from the guild. If you feel that you won’t be able to follow these rules or that you CAN’T follow these rules because of your personality, then save us the trouble and /gquit.

I. All your lewts are belong to Kor

I. No fighting in the guild.

Now this is not as black and white of a rule to enforce because of the nature of our guild so I will explain it. We all joke around. People should not take things that other guild members say personally. It’s a joke. If you feel that someone is making personal attacks at you out of spite, let an officer know. Yes, it’s elementary but these are the conditions that the guild is forced to implement to keep things sane as we grow. It has not become a big issue yet, but I can see it causing big drama later down the road if this isn’t dealt with right now. Fight with pugs, not guild mates.

II. The Complaining in Guild Chat needs to stop.

The complaining about raiding or “this person doesn’t deserve that piece of gear” and my favorite “blizzard sucks because (insert lame reason here)” needs to stop. It’s starting to get annoying for a lot of people, including myself, to come online from work or wherever and have to deal with the whining on vent or the complaining in guild chat. There are many things to talk about in guild. Trying to get to know your guild mates better is a start.

III. Stop with the excessive linking of gear in guild chat.

We’re all proud of our gear. Who doesn’t get excited when that tanking sword finally drops that you’ve been farming heroic pinnacle for and dealing with pug groups that don’t listen and stand in the ice blast or attack the boss while bane is up or attacks mobs before they even reach the tank? We all do, (Not me of course because I’m much more level headed than everyone else, but that is just one of the horror stories that I’ve heard) but that doesn’t mean that you have to link that piece of gear in guild chat every time someone new comes online. Even in raids members of the guild are linking every drop from a raid boss in guild chat.

This becomes very annoying and puts pressure on the people that couldn’t make the run or the guys that are still leveling up. This in turn will put them in a bad mood, and bad moods lead to drama.

Like I said before, this is a casual guild that raids. Members of the guild that are leveling up should not feel pressured to hit 80. I would hear one person say “Hey that guy sucks because he’s not level 80 yet” or I would see people putting pressure on a certain person because “The guild needs this class to raid”. This is very selfish and will not be tolerated anymore.

IV. Guild runs are posted on the calendar.

The official Guild raid days are Friday-Sunday and will always be on the Calendar. If it is not on the calendar it is not an official guild run. Any other raids that members see being ran, do not complain about it, do not ask an officer about it. It is a run that is either a pug or something that someone else in the guild took the initiative on and put together.

With this said do not put together raids that are on the calendar because you can’t make the official raid. It’s alright if you join someone else’s pug or if you put it together AFTER the guild runs it, but to take guild members or create a 25-man obsidian run on a Wednesday when the guild 25-man obsidian run is on the following Friday is selfish and can result in a guild removal.

V. New guild/pug loot rules.

Since we are now doing 25-man content again, as a raid leader I know have to deal with the fair distribution of loot that we come across. Since we advertise ourselves as a casual guild; loot has to be distributed in a way where everyone can be content. The new guild loot rules will be as follows….

Loot will be split up into 3 categories.

  1. Armor - Helm, chest, shoulders, chest, bracers, gloves, belt, legs, feet
  2. Weapons – Main hand, Off hand, Ranged/Relic/Idol/Totem/Rune
  3. Miscellaneous – Back, Neck, Rings, Trinket

Each member in the raid can only roll for 1 piece of gear in each category. After said person receives a piece of gear in a certain category then they have to pass on all subsequent gear that falls into that category until everyone gets at least one piece of gear from that category or someone passes.

For example, Babian, Korentul, and a pug Death knight are tanking 25-man naxx. Babian wins the plate tanking helm off the first boss…. He will not be able to roll on any gear that falls into the “armor” category until Korentul and the Death Knight either both gets gear in that category or we both pass on the next “armor” drop for whatever reason. He will still be able to roll for Weapons and/or Miscellaneous items if he so inclined.

We will start to use this loot rule system for our next raid. We will still keep Heroic Tier gear in the guild and it will be giving out in the Tanks à Healers à DPS fashion. Tier gear will also fall into the “Armor” category.

There will also still be limits to one piece of gear per slot. So you will not be able to upgrade the shoulders that you just got earlier in the run.

VI. Conclusion

These are the new “guild rules” that everyone must follow. The officers and I believe that with these rules in place it will keep the guild friendly, fun, and most of all fair. It will also help clear up the confusion that some of you may have had in the guild. If you are still confused about an issue you can always message any off the officers ranked “death stalker” and above.
